2013 the novel 'Bad Blood of the Vampire', an urban fantasy novel by Hagen Ulrich, was published. It is based on a story which happened in Plauen. An evangelical member of the city council of the CDU took the view that the foreign minister of that time, Guido Westerwelle, had been the wrong choice as the minister due to his homosexuality, because he wouldn't be able to represent Germany in foreign countries, for example in dealings with Saudi-Arabia, where homosexuality is persecuted with a death sentence.
He also took the view that queer teenagers had to be 'healed', because homosexuality is a disease.
The half-heartedly and outrageously reaction of the Saxonian CDU, which is known to be homophobic, led to the fantasy novel 'Bad Blood of a Vampire'. The two protagonists, Sebastian Harrach, the son of the clerical and bigot CDU member of the city council Peter Harrach, and Cosmin Radulescu, a vampire with murderous relatives, meet in a club. Both have their secrets and fight against each other, until they realize that the true monsters are somewhere else.
The novel Bad Blood of the Vampire will be re-published at the Leipzig Book Fair as a hard-cover book with 18 coloured illustrations by Mandelbrot
